Accessibility Statement
Last updated 2026-08-07
Last updated: 14 August 2026
This statement applies to biorx.uk, operated by BioRx.
We want this site to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, speech input, or who need reduced motion or increased contrast.
Our standard
We are working to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. BioRx is not a public sector body, so the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not apply to us; we have adopted WCAG 2.2 AA as our target voluntarily, and we recognise our duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments.
What we do
- Semantic HTML with a logical heading structure on every page.
- Full keyboard operability, with a visible focus indicator and a "skip to content" link.
- Text and interface colours tested against WCAG contrast minimums, in both light and dark themes.
- Text that reflows and remains readable at 200% zoom and at 320 CSS pixels width.
- Meaningful alternative text for informative images; decorative images marked as such.
- Form fields with persistent, programmatically associated labels and clear, specific error messages.
- Tables with proper header associations, so evidence tables are navigable by screen reader.
- Respect for the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting. - Plain-English writing, with technical terms explained on first use.
Known limitations
We are being specific here because a vague accessibility statement is not much use to anyone. As at 14 August 2026 we are aware of the following:
- Complex evidence tables : some wide comparison tables scroll horizontally on small screens and can be difficult to follow with a screen reader. Planned fix: 14 August 2026.
- Embedded third-party content : where we embed material hosted elsewhere (for example a figure viewer), we cannot guarantee its accessibility. We are working to replace or caption these. Ongoing.
- Older archived entries : a small number of pages published before our current standards were adopted may have incomplete alternative text or heading structure. Being remediated as those pages come up for scheduled review.
- Downloadable documents : some PDFs may not be fully tagged for screen reader use. We will provide an accessible alternative on request. Planned fix: 14 August 2026.
How we tested
This site is tested with automated scanning plus manual keyboard and screen reader checks as part of each release.
